FAQ

RLI believes that having leadership skills does not alone assure good Rotary leadership. An effective Rotary leader must ALSO have Rotary knowledge, perspective on where Rotary has been, where it is now going and a vision of what Rotary can be.
The Institute offers a leadership course in three full day parts (Parts I, II, III). These courses are taken over time to allow participants to gain perspective through their club activities in between Parts, but you do need to complete the Parts in order. The courses are designed to provide Rotary knowledge and to develop leadership skills for voluntary organizations. Some examples of course sessions include "Rotary Beyond the Club", "The Rotary Foundation", "Membership Development and Retention", "Strategic Planning", "Creating Hands On Service Projects", "Vocational Service", "International Service" and "Analyzing a Rotary Club".
The sessions will be offered at least twice per year, but are currently in the Spring, Summer and Fall. Courses are held at convenient locations throughout the district. Click here to see the upcoming class schedule.

On the day of the event, Registration starts at 8:00 AM and the first session starts at 8:30 AM. The final session of the day is usually finished about 3:30 PM. Lunch is provided for you during the day - please let us know of any dietary problems you might have when you register.
The Institute believes in course sessions with as much discussion/participation as possible. Discussion breakout sessions are limited to approximately 15 persons. Lectures are limited. Course methods include discussion groups, role-playing, problem solving workshops, creating projects and audiovisual presentations. Everyone participates during The Institute's sessions.
Faculty members are carefully selected by The Institute from all areas of the member districts. We strive to use Rotary Leadership Institute Graduates as well as others familiar with the presentation methods and/or subject matter.
The Institute recommends that clubs nominate those Rotarians who appear to have the potential for club leadership, not just those slated as future presidents but anyone interested in positions of leadership. Candidates should certainly have a strong interest in Rotary and be ready to be exposed to the large world of Rotary. The Institute requests each club nominate one or two Rotarians each year and support previous nominees in completing Parts II and III.
The current course fees are $85 per registrant per day. The fees cover breakfast, lunch, breaks and materials. Course fees also pay for meeting space, equipment and promotional costs. The Institute strongly recommends that clubs pay the fees for the participants.
If your club cares about its future, it will want the best leaders and members possible. This is an outstanding opportunity for each club to improve the Rotary knowledge of its key people, who will also be exposed to new ideas of leadership. The exchange of ideas with other Rotarians alone makes the courses worthwhile.
